The role of the Jersey Police Authority (JPA) is to work in partnership with the States of Jersey Police (SoJP) to safeguard our community. The JPA also holds the SoJP to account for the delivery of effective & efficient policing.
The JPA is an independent body established under Article 4 of the States of Jersey Police Force Law 2012 to ensure that the States of Jersey Police Force (SoJP):
- Is an efficient and effective police force
- Delivers the key aims and objectives set by the Minister for Justice and Home Affairs, within the resources available
- Acts in accordance with any management policies set by the Minister
The JPA is responsible for seeking from the Minister any additional resources required to enable the SoJP to deliver its key aims and objectives.
Additionally, the JPA makes arrangements for obtaining the views of local people about the policing of their area; and the co-operation of local people in preventing crime.
The JPA consists of a Chair, up to 4 members who are not elected States Members and up to 2 elected States Members (who are appointed by the States Assembly).
