  • Visits to your school/college by States Members
  • Workshops led by our Education Manager
  • Tours of the States Chamber
  • High quality teaching resources
  • Support with school elections
  • Programmes that provide KS 4 - 5 students with the opportunity to debate in the Chamber

We hope to provide all the tools you need to empower your students with the knowledge and skills they need to become active citizens. If there's anything further you need, please do get in touch.

Support with school elections

Whether you're forming a School Council or a Pupil Parliament, school elections are a brilliant opportunity for students to learn about democracy.

Why not recreate a polling station or invite the States Members from your constituency in to discuss what being an elected representative is all about?

The States Greffe can help you with contacting your nearest polling station or inviting States Members in – contact us by emailing: statesgreffe@gov.je

Year 5 visits to the States Chamber

Every year, children in year 5 from each of the Island’s schools visit the States Chamber to learn about the history of the States Assembly and participate in a debate.

These visits provide an exciting opportunity to learn about how decisions are made in Jersey whilst sitting in the seat of a States Member and taking in all the details of the States Chamber.

Before their visit, all students receive a booklet which gives an overview of the work of the States Assembly, which includes a range of activities that can be completed at home or in school. Schools also have access to a fully resourced, cross-curricular Scheme of Learning linked to the booklet to ensure that the learning in the Chamber is also embedded in the classroom.

As well fulfilling requirements of the citizenship curriculum, this Scheme of Learning also allows schools to deliver important elements of the English curriculum, including spoken language and writing skills, as well as History.

Family members are invited to watch the debates in the States Chamber from the Public Gallery; please advise you child's school in advance if you're able to attend.
