Visit the States Chamber

There are a number of opportunities to visit the States Chamber.

  1. Members of the public are welcome to watch States Meetings from the public gallery of the Chamber. The entrance can be found at the top of Halkett Place in St Helier next to the traffic lights. The gates will open approximately 30 minutes before the meeting begins. To find out when the next meeting is taking place, visit our What's On page.
  2. Join a public tour of the Chamber with a local Blue Badge Guide. Tours take place on a Saturday morning, once per month between March and October. Tickets are available to book at the bottom of this page.
  3. Organise a community and corporate tour for a group of people. This can be organised by emailing statesgreffe@gov.je.
  4. Take a virtual tour from the comfort of your own home.

Watching from the Public Gallery

The best view of the Chamber is from the front and either the left or right sides of the gallery. If you arrive before the meeting begins please remain standing until the Presiding Officer (the Bailiff or Deputy Bailiff) has taken their seat. The arrival of the Presiding Officer will be announced by the Usher. You are also required to stand when the Dean leads the prayers, in French, and when the meeting adjourns and the Presiding Officer leaves the Chamber.

When visiting the Chamber, please remember to abide by the following rules:

  • No food or drink
  • No photography or videos
  • Mobile phones to be switched off or on silent
  • Be as quiet as possible when entering and leaving
  • Do not comment on or interrupt the proceedings

The Presiding Officer may ask the Usher to escort you from the public gallery should you not respect these rules.
