The Remuneration Reviewer makes recommendations to the Privileges and Procedures Committee (PPC) on any matters relating to the remuneration, allowances and benefits available to elected States Members.

The recommendations of the Remuneration Reviewer with regard to basic remuneration are implemented without a debate. All States Members must, by Law, receive the same level of remuneration. As of 1 October 2024, the current annual remuneration is £57,296.40 (there is no longer any separate amount for expenses).

The Remuneration Reviewer is appointed by PPC in accordance with the States of Jersey Law 2005.  The current Remuneration Reviewer published her report in October 2023 with a determination of the remuneration arrangements that will remain in force until the next elections in 2026, after which the new PPC will be obliged to appoint a new Remuneration Reviewer and further recommendations will be made.  In line with the current Reviewer’s determination, the remuneration of elected States Members will increase on 1 October each year in line with the Average Earnings Index published the preceding August.

Hear from the Remuneration Reviewer

In October 2023, following a review of Members' pay, a Podcast was recorded with Jennifer Long, independent States Members' Remuneration Reviewer. Jennifer talks about the experience in parliamentary and regulatory settings that she brings to the role. The conversation delves into how you decide on a fair wage for a role that has no formal job description, and whether States Members themselves have a say over what they get paid.
