Jersey student to speak at the House of Commons
States Assembly
26 February 2025

Cassie Graham, an A-Level student from JCG, is due to deliver a speech about Jersey’s economic growth and the need to diversify the Island’s labour market.
She was invited to take part in the debate alongside representatives from the other Crown Dependencies and the British Overseas Territories by Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle.
Sir Lindsay said he was ‘very proud that this sitting of the UK Youth Parliament will hear from such a broad range of young voices’.
‘I cannot wait to hear the thoughts and views of young people from across the UK, the British Overseas Territories, and the Crown Dependencies, on the issues that matter to them,’ he added.
Cassie is a former member of the Jersey Youth Parliament and attended the British and Irish Council conference held in Jersey in 2023, as well as that year’s Youth Con in London. Since finishing her term on the JYP, Cassie attended the Normandy Peace Forum last September in Caen.
More than 260 young people aged between 11 and 18 years are expected to take their place on the House of Commons green benches as part of the UK Youth Parliament session.
The UK Youth Parliament made history when it held its debut sitting in the House of Commons in 2009. It was the first time that the Chamber had been used by anyone other than elected Members of Parliament. The 2025 sitting is set to be the 15th since UKYP began.
