Reception in the States Chamber to celebrate Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche

A special reception will be held in the States Chamber at 3:30pm on Wednesday 24 September 2025 to mark the 30th Anniversary of the Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche and to celebrate the work it undertakes. The Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche exists to promote relations between the region of Normandy, and the region’s département of Manche, and all of the Channel Islands. It helps to establish and maintain economic and cultural links and exchanges between the Islands and their closest Norman neighbours.
In Jersey, the institution is based in Halkett Place and has, amongst other things, supported twinning arrangements between 11 of the Island’s Parishes and towns and villages in Normandy. It is directly involved in the publication of Le Rocher, a quarterly newspaper in French, and is co-organiser of Le French Festival.
The reception has been organised on the same day as the 10th annual Normandy-Channel Islands Summit, when representatives of the Normandy region and the Département de la Manche will be in the Island. Political representatives from Guernsey, Alderney and Sark will also attend the reception in the Chamber, in light of the work undertaken by the Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche in all of the Islands.
The reception will see speeches from the Presidents of the Normandy Region and Departmental Council of La Manche, Hervé Morin and Jean Morin, as well as from the President of the Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche, Pierre Vogt. The reception will be welcomed by Deputy Montfort Tadier, President of the Jersey Section of the APF (the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie).
Following these speeches that will mark the work undertaken by the Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche, there will be a series of presentations of medals to Friends of the Maison de la Normandie: people who have actively supported the work of fostering and strengthening ties between Normandy and Jersey.
Deputy Tadier said: “It is fitting that this reception will take place in the States Chamber. French was the original language of the States Assembly and remains one of our parliament’s official languages. But that language which we share in common with our Norman friends and neighbours is only one example of what we share. Our histories are entwined and, with Normandy being our closest neighbours, there are significant opportunities for cultural, economic and political cooperation.
“The work of the Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche is integral in realising those opportunities. From the States Assembly’s perspective, our membership of the APF encourages us to engage and cooperate with French-speaking jurisdictions in all spheres. I am therefore delighted that we are able to mark the work of the Maison de la Normandie to improve engagement and cooperation – and to celebrate the work of those individuals who have contributed to that work.”
