The Environment, Housing and Infrastructure (EHI) Scrutiny Panel has formed a Sub-Panel to scrutinise the Draft Regulation of Care (Jersey) Amendment Law 202-. The Sub-Panel will include members from EHI, as well as other States Members.EHI Panel Chair, Deputy Hilary Jeune, said: ‘It is important that we scrutinise this critical legislation to ensure that the independent regulation of Jersey’s hospital and ambulance services, including mental health, are regulated effectively in the interests of the public by the Jersey Care Commission.
‘A review of this legislation falls within the remit of the EHI Panel and a discussion with the Scrutiny Liaison Committee was held yesterday, with the intention of requesting the formation of a Sub-Panel, including additional States Members, due to the specialist nature of the legislation. The establishment of the Sub-Panel is to ensure appropriate oversight and reflects the cross-cutting relevance of the topic and is not due to a limitation on the part of the Health and Social Security Panel to scrutinise the legislation.’
The Sub-Panel is scheduled to receive a private briefing on the draft legislation at the end of the month from the Government and will then consider its approach to a review and next steps.
