REPORT
The Minister for Housing has amended the eligibility criteria for accessing social housing through the Affordable Housing Gateway by removing the current maximum savings and other capital assets limit. Where a person has savings above £80,000, the Gateway will place their application in Band 3 unless there are circumstances that warrant an applicant being awarded a higher band.
The Minister has also taken the opportunity to uprate the maximum household income thresholds based on the change in RPI since the last review in September 2023. The revised thresholds are as follows:
No. of dependent | Maximum gross annual income | |||||
children | Current single applicant | Proposed single applicant (RPI) | Change | Current joint applicant | Proposed joint applicant (RPI) | Change |
None | £38,818 | £40,000 | +£1,182 | £52,462 | £54,000 | +£1,538 |
One child | £61,956 | £63,800 | +£1,844 | £68,960 | £71,000 | +£2,040 |
Two children | £76,415 | £78,700 | +£2,285 | £83,288 | £85,800 | +£2,512 |
Three children or more | £85,132 | £87,700 | +£2,568 | £92,079 | £94,800 | +£2,721 |
Second parent or grandparent | £61,956 | £63,800 | +£1,844 | £68,960 | £71,000 | +£2,040 |
The policy changes will come into effect on 1 May 2025.
