Question
"Following the adoption of P.31/2024, as amended, will the Minister advise what progress, if any, has been made to reclassify cannabinol and cannabinol derivatives, except where contained in cannabis or cannabis resin, from Class A controlled drugs to Class B controlled drugs and when this change will be implemented?"
Answer
As agreed, the matter of the classification of cannabinol and cannabinol derivatives was referred to the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (the Council') in July 2024.
The matter was initially considered at the next full meeting of the Council, but, given the level of specialist and technical detail involved, is was referred for consideration by a specifically tasked sub-group of the Council.
As such, we currently await the Council's written advice on the matter. Once this has been received, we will be in a position to consider the issue in full and update the Assembly, hopefully within the next two months.
