1)  Name and brief description of the proposed decision

The subject of your CRIA may be a proposed law, policy or proposition and in accordance with the Law is referred to in this template as the decision'

• What is the problem or issue the decision is trying to address?

• Do children experience this problem differently from adults?

This amendment proposes a more balanced and representative approach to proposer and seconder process during the elections process one that requires candidates for Senator to demonstrate support from across the Island. Specifically, it would require candidates to secure:

• 1 proposer - from anywhere in Jersey, who is entitled to vote,

• 14 seconders, who are entitled to vote, from the following:

• 9 seconders – 1 from each of Jersey's nine Deputy electoral constituencies,

• 2 seconders extra – from 3-parish constituencies,

• 1 seconder extra - from 2-parish constituency.

= 15 total

2)  Which groups of children and young people are likely to be affected?

Groups of children could include early years, primary or secondary education; young adults; children with additional learning needs; disabled children; children living in poverty; children from particular ethnic backgrounds; migrants; refugees; care experienced children and LGBTQ+ children

This would benefit all children as candidates for Senators would have to find proposers and seconders from different geographical areas of Jersey and some thinking behind socio-economic groups/ community representation.

3)  What is the likely impact of the proposed decision on children and on their rights?

• Identify any potential positive OR negative impacts and include indirect impacts on children and their rights as described in the UNCRC

• Will different groups of children be affected differently by this decision?

It should positively affect them through indirect impacts on the quality of candidates that stand for Senator.
