1 September 2022
President of the Jersey Branch of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie, Deputy Montfort Tadier, met yesterday with President of La Région Normande, Monsieur Jean Morin, during his visit to Jersey.
Deputy Tadier and Monsieur Morin discussed a number of issues of shared interest, including ferry travel and the possibility of French tourists travelling to Jersey for day trips using a French ID card instead of a passport. The importance of continuing and enhancing cultural and economic links in the region and the shared linguistic heritage between Jersey and France were also topics of discussion.
President of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie, Deputy Tadier commented: "It is always a pleasure to welcome our Norman cousins to the Island. Monsieur Morin has a genuine interest in Jersey and our shared culture, with particular enthusiasm for the fantastic work we are doing to promote and enhance the use of our unique Norman language, Jèrriais. As President of the Jersey Branch of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie, I am always looking to strengthen relationships with our French neighbours and look forward to further opportunities to continue doing so in the future."
The Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie is an international organisation that brings together French-speaking parliaments around the world.
