Scrutiny panel launches review into Draft Unlawful Public Entertainments (Jersey) Regulations 202-

Today, the Economic and International Affairs Scrutiny Panel (the Panel) has launched a review into the Draft Unlawful Public Entertainments (Jersey) Regulations 202-, including the extension of the current regulations to July 2027.
The primary purpose of this legislation is to establish a framework by which public events in Jersey can be managed in a safe way with a minimum of disruption to the public.
The main objectives of this review are:
During June 2024:
- Conduct public hearings with key stakeholders regarding the Draft Unlawful Public Entertainments (Jersey) Regulations 202- and question the Minister for Sustainable Economic Development during the quarterly hearing on 4 July 2024.
- Call for evidence to gather views from stakeholders in the events industry and on the permit system.
By 11 July 2024:
- Review the Draft Unlawful Public Entertainments (Jersey) Regulations 202-.
- Investigate extending the Unlawful Public Entertainments (Jersey) Regulations 2022 to July 2027.
- Report findings to the States Assembly and make recommendations to the Minister for Sustainable Economic Development or the Council of Ministers.
Deputy Montfort Tadier said 'As Chair of the Panel, I am eager to begin our review of the Draft Unlawful Public Entertainments (Jersey) Regulations 202-. The States Assembly agreed to continue the debate on 16 July 2024, so we will thoroughly examine the provisions, including their expiration on 20 July 2027, to ensure they benefit the public and the economy. The Panel wants to hear the public's views and experiences of event licencing, and the extension of the Unlawful Public Entertainments Regulations.'
The Panel will be inviting submissions from targeted stakeholders, the public and those operating events and public entertainments.
