States agree to put housing on Ann Court

The States have agreed to ask the Minister for Treasury and Resources to loan Andium Homes the money needed to build housing at Ann Court in St. Helier.

The States adopted the proposition of Deputy Steve Luce by 26 votes to ​20 and agreed that the £37.8 million loan to Andium should be released so that they can build 165 homes on the site. The Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondre, had delayed the scheme so that consideration could be given to using the site for States offices, but members decided that housing should take priority.

During the sitting States also agreed to adopt the Draft Damages (Jersey) Law, which will allow the award of perioodic payments to people who have been injured and awarded damages to cover their ongoing care costs and any loss of earnings.

The States also adopted the Draft Cybercrime (Jersey) Law, which brings Jersey up-to-date in its treatment of crime involving computers and data storage.

Ms. Therese Morel was appointed as a non-States Commissioner of the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission for three years, and Nicola Palios was re-appointed as Chairman of the States of Jersey Development Company Limited from 2nd February until 19th June 2020.
