States Meeting Election of the Chief Minister

States Assembly

4 July 2022

The first official States Meeting of the new States Assembly will begin at 9:30am on Tuesday 5 July. The meeting will be dedicated to the election of Jersey's next Chief Minister and will be broadcast live via Public-I using the following link:

Two States Members are standing as candidates for the position of Chief Minister:

  • Deputy Sam Mézec of St Helier South
  • Deputy Kristina Moore of St Mary, St Ouen and St Peter

Each candidate's statement can be read in full in the Order Paper

To begin the meeting, the Greffier will read out the nominations and the Bailiff will draw lots to determine the order in which the candidates will address the Assembly.

Each candidate will make a statement to the Assembly for up to 10 minutes, followed by up to one hour of questions from States Members.

Members will then cast their vote for which candidate they wish to become Chief Minister. The candidate who receives more than half of the votes will be elected as Chief Minister designate and officially take up the position when the Council of Ministers has been elected during next week's States Meeting commencing Monday 12 July.

A notification when each statement begins and the results of the vote will be shared on the States Assembly Twitter and Facebook pages throughout the meeting
