Tribute

This week's States Meeting began with a tribute from the Bailiff for former Deputy Robin Rumboll, who has passed away. He joined the States in December 1981, when he was elected as Deputy for St Helier No 2, a position he held for 15 years until he retired from politics in 1996.

Statements

The Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture, Deputy Kirsten Morel, made a statement regarding the Future Economy Programme. This was followed by questions from the Assembly for 15 minutes.

Public Business

Reporting Headcount and vacancies

Deputy Max Andrews proposed that the States Employment Board should publish the headcount, number of vacancies and staff turnover of Government every 6 months, starting in January 2024. 

The proposition was debated as amended by the Council of Minister's second amendment, which proposed that the States Employment Board produce a release schedule for public sector staffing statistics before June 2024.

The States Assembly voted to APPROVE Deputy Andrews' proposition, with 32 votes for, 12 votes against, and 0 abstentions.

Audit of Government Department Vacancies

Deputy Max Andrews proposed that all government departments should audit their current job vacancies, identify those vacancies that can be removed as unnecessary and report back to the Assembly, by July 2024, on the payroll expenditure savings.

The States Assembly voted to REJECT Deputy Andrews' proposition, with 1 vote for, 44 votes against, and 0 abstentions.
