DEPUTY G.P. SOUTHERN OF ST. HELIER

REPORT

I have put forward the name of Deputy T. Pitman to be a States appointed Director of the Waterfront Enterprise Board for a number of reasons. I hope members will join with me in accepting that these reasons are valid and as a consequence will support his candidacy.

The first and foremost reason is that I believe it is absolutely imperative that an elected representative from St.  Helier should be on the Board. There can be no doubt that the greatest impact of decisions made on the Waterfront and of consequent development there will be on St.  Helier and its residents. In particular, the impact will be especially felt in St.  Helier No.  1 District which Deputy Pitman represents.

I believe that there ought to be a direct 2-way communication channel between the Board and the residents of St.  Helier. Deputy Pitman with his excellent communication skills is ideally place to be that channel.

Furthermore, Deputy Pitman has a sound business background on which to judge, and to support where appropriate, the actions of the Waterfront Enterprise Board. He has also expressed the view that the Waterfront development must cater for the needs of young people. A place on the Board will allow him better to ensure that this concern is given due weight.

Finally as a new member of the States, Deputy Pitman brings his full enthusiasm and dedication to the role. He has consciously avoided overloading himself with too many roles in Scrutiny and left himself the capacity to take on additional challenges throughout the coming 2  years. This is one such appropriate challenge that I am sure he will rise to.

There are no financial or manpower implications for the States arising from this amendment.
