REPORT

The Minister for Home Affairs presents the following statistics for the year 2012 –

  1. Statement as to the number of births and deaths, marriages and civil partnerships registered in the 12 parishes of the Island during the year 2012

Notes:

  1. When  the  various  re-registrations  are  deducted  from  the  official  birth registrations shown above, the number of children born in the Island in 2012 was 1,123.
  2. There were 5 stillbirths in the Island in 2012.
  3. The number  of  marriages  performed  in the  Office  of  the  Superintendent Registrar  in 2012  was  170.  This  was  9  more  than  in the  previous  year. A further 192 civil marriages were celebrated in Approved Premises, 22 more than in the previous year. The most popular months for marriages were June through to September, with August the busiest month (65 weddings).
  4. During the year, 116 couples came to the Island to be married. This is 4 less than in the previous year. The most popular months for visitors were August and June (26 and 23 respectively).
  5. The number of deaths registered in 2012 was 46 more than in the previous year.
  6. The Civil Partnership (Jersey) Law 2012 came into force on 2nd April 2012. During 2012, after the Law came into force, there were 17 civil partnership ceremonies, all of which were in St. Helier . One couple came to the Island for their ceremony.
