The Industries Committee agrees with the Finance and Economics Committee that it would not be appropriate to transfer the responsibility for the Jersey Consumer Council to the Finance and Economics Committee. The Committee is of the firm view that it is the correct Committee to have this responsibility as it fits well with its other responsibilities, such as Trading Standards and Consumer Protection.
The Industries Committee is alert to the resource requirements of the Jersey Consumer Council. It did increase the funds allocated to the Council in 2002 to £30,000 compared with the £20,000 in 2001. This must be seen as a significant recognition of the importance of the Consumer Council at a time when Committee's cash limit is being reduced year by year.
