BENEFITS PAID BY THE HOUSING AND EMPLOYMENT AND SOCIAL SECURITY COMMITTEES: PROTECTION (P.75/2003)COMMENTS

Presented to the States on 8th July 2003

COMMENTS

The Committee appreciates the sentiments behind Deputy Southern 's proposition but, unfortunately, cannot lend their support for two reasons: it would prevent any changes that may be required, for example, in the interests of equity; and also make it difficult to take a step-by-step approach towards a new low income support scheme, which may prove necessary given the complexity of such a scheme. The Committee is satisfied that there are already sufficient checks in the current system as changes affecting entitlement generally require States approval under relevant legislation.
