INCOME SUPPORT SYSTEM (P.86/2005): COMMENTS
Presented to the States on 21st June 2005 by the Finance and Economics Committee
STATES GREFFE
COMMENTS
The Finance and Economics Committee fully supports the proposals for a new income support system. To streamline the system will ensure the delivery of a more equitable and transparent approach and ultimately improve efficiency by rationalising current administration processes.
The final proposals and cost implications of the income support system will need to be approved when brought forward, however, the Committee has agreed, in principle, to provide additional funding of up to £20 million, plus implementation costs, over the transitional period.
The additional income support that will be required as a result of the introduction of a Goods and Services Tax will be financed from income raised from that tax.
