DISABLED PERSONS: BADGES FOR MOTOR VEHICLES – SINGLE OR DOUBLE AMPUTEES (P.112/2010) – COMMENTS

Presented to the States on 27th September 2010 by the Minister for Transport and Technical Services

COMMENTS

The Minister for Transport and Technical Services supports the proposition of Senator F. du H. Le Gresley.

The law, as it stands, covers all disabilities equally. However, it is clear that in the case of a single or double leg amputee, requiring these people to obtain a second or subsequent medical certificate, when it is clear their disability will not have changed in  the  intervening  period,  is  unnecessary  and  causes  them  needless  expense  and trouble.

Given that it is unlikely a Doctor is not going to sign the form for a single or double leg amputee, the proposition seems entirely reasonable; the only caveat being, we may get future requests for other conditions which may be more difficult to judge.

My recommendation is that members accept this proposition.
