STATES OF JERSEY
PUBLIC HOLIDAYS AND BANK HOLIDAYS: DESIGNATION OF 7TH MAY 2010 (P.15/2010) – COMMENTS
Presented to the States on 15th February 2010 by the Council of Ministers
STATES GREFFE
2010 Price code: A P.15 Com.
COMMENTS
The Council of Ministers is opposed to this proposition for the following reasons –
- If the States were to create an additional Public Holiday in connection with the Liberation Day festivities this year, then the only logical day to designate was the adjacent day of Monday, 10th May. The States have decided against that principle. The proposer is merely revisiting the same argument debated on 2nd February 2010 by the States.
- To designate the Friday as a Public Holiday will create confusion in the commercial sector, with businesses having to shut on the Friday; open on the Saturday; shut on the Sunday and opening again on the Monday.
