COMMENTS
PPC strongly opposes the proposition of Senator Cohen suggesting that a referendum should be held in the coming months on the issue of Senators, and has set out its reasons for opposing that proposition in its comments (P.198/2010 Com.). PPC strongly opposes this amendment for the same reasons.
If a referendum was held during the spring this year which included a question on Deputies there would, as explained in PPC's comments on the main proposition, simply be no way to implement the decision before the 2011 elections. In addition PPC would point out that, even if members were minded to support the holding of a referendum, Deputy T. Pitman's suggested question could be confusing, as it asks electors "Do you wish the number of Deputies representing your Parish to be reduced?" and it could be difficult for electors to answer this question before any reform affecting the number of Deputies or the manner in which they would be elected has been agreed, particularly for electors who live in parishes with only one Deputy , where the question would be difficult to interpret.
