STATES OF JERSEY
PROPOSED GOVERNMENT PLAN 2023- 2026 (P.97/2022): FIFTH AMENDMENT (P.97/2022 AMD.(5)) – COMMENTS
ST. HELIER COUNTRY PARK
Presented to the States on 8th December 2022 by the Council of Ministers
STATES GREFFE
2022 P.97 Amd.(5) Com.
COMMENTS
The Council of Ministers does not support the amendment of the Connétable of St Helier.
The proposed location for the St Helier Country Park is currently under let to a commercial organisation in a diversified and growing agricultural sector. Conversion to a country park would necessitate the relocation of that tenant and the loss of rental income at this time. Rejecting this proposition will have a positive benefit to the industry, prevent upheaval and commercial interruption.
Rejecting this proposal will sustain the annual rental income to Jersey Property Holdings from the current tenant and will prevent additional pressure on the government to fund redevelopment of the site and incur ongoing maintenance and resources for a country park.
This Council of Ministers is committed to creating new green spaces and schools in central St Helier, which is identified in this Government Plan. It is our view that these projects will make a greater impact upon the everyday lives of residents of town by offering spaces close to home.
