The Proposition is intended to remove the requirement that candidates standing for election as either Constable or Deputy , should be a British Citizen.
The decision seeks to remove discrimination promote equality and diversity in our elected Assembly.
Children would not directly be affected by this change.

Groups of children could include early years, primary or secondary education; young adults; children with additional learning needs; disabled children; children living in poverty; children from particular ethnic backgrounds; migrants; refugees; care experienced children and LGBTQ+ children

However it should be taken into account that by removing the discriminatory criteria, there would be the potential for greater representation of Jersey's minority communities. In turn this would give voices to children from those communities – and also provide a positive role model for those young people.
