Cable television. Statement
The President of the
Telecommunications Board made a statement in the following terms -
I wish to inform the House that the
T elecommunications Board will shortly i ssue a licence to a local company,
J ersey Cable Limited, which will
e nable it to operate a full-scale
c able television service on the
I sland.
T he licence will remain in force until 3 1st December, 1993 at which time its r enewal will be reviewed.
J ersey Cable Limited are the current h olders of a restricted temporary
c able television licence which is r enewed annually.
T he new licence will enable the
c ompany to extend its coverage
g eographically and to increase the
n umber of programmes simultaneously t ransmitted from six to around thirty.
A lthough there are no regulations
c urrently in force, the terms of the
l icence ensure that the programme
c ontent will be of a standard similar
t o that obtaining in the United
K ingdom and will be subject to the
c ontrol of the Broadcasting Committee.
I t is hoped that in 1991 the
B roadcasting Committee will introduce l egislation based on a Broadcasting
B ill currently being discussed by the
U nited Kingdom parliament. This
l egislation provides for the
e stablishment of a regulatory body
w ith adequate powers to monitor and
c ontrol cable television systems.
T he decision to issue a licence at
t his time was taken in consultation
w ith the Broadcasting Committee and H er Majesty's Attorney General.''
Greville Bathe Fund: appointment of Trustee
THE STATES, adopting a Proposition
of the Finance and Economics Committee, approved the appointment of Jurat Mazel Joan Le Ruez as a Trustee for the purpose of administering the income of the Greville Bathe Fund in place of Maxwell Gordon Lucas, Esquire, who, on 13th February, 1990, ceased to hold the office of Jurat.
