THE STATES, having received an assurance from the President of the Island Development Committee that that Committee accepted the petition, adopted a proposition of Senator Nigel Lewis Quérée requesting the Island Development Committee to reconsider its decision to give planning permission to Le Riches Stores Limited to demolish two bungalows, cut down a row of oak trees and build a two-storey car park

development at Red Houses, St. Brelade (application 1533/BA).

Agricultural and horticultural industry: future policy. P.125/93 and P.143/93

THE STATES, adopting a proposition of the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee, approved the policies of the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee as set out in its report dated 28th July 1993 and, in particular -

( a) approved the policy on future aid to t he agr icultural and horticultural

i nd ustry, as outlined in Section 3 of   i ts report dated 28th July 1993;

( b) approved the introduction or

cont inuation, as appropriate, of those s che mes detailed in Section 5 of the r ep ort in respect of -

( i) grants for the use of lime and for m at er i als to control infestation

by p ot ato root eelworm;

( ii ) m easures to encourage and support goo d agr icultural practice;

( ii i) f inancial support for the indus tr y;

( iv ) provision of services;

( v ) marketing and transport;

( vi ) help for small farms and worker tr ai ni ng;

( vi i ) interest subsidy schemes;

a nd agreed to make available to the

C ommittee the necessary funds required to i mplement its policies, in accordance with t he cash limits for 1994 set by the Finance a nd Economics Committee.

Senator Jean Amy Le Maistre, Leonard René Hamel, Connétable of St. Clement , and Edwin Le

Gresley Godel, Connétable of St. Mary , each declared a direct pecuniary interest in the

subject matter of the proposition and withdrew

from the Chamber prior to consideration of the proposition.

THE STATES acceded to the request of the President of the Island Development Committee that consideration of the proposition regarding the purchase of Colomberie House, St. Helier (lodged on 10th August 1993) be deferred from the present Sitting to a later date.

THE STATES then adjourned, having agreed that the outstanding items of Public Business should stand over until the next Sitting and that they should be considered immediately before the matters already set down for debate at that Sitting.
