Senatorial  b y- A1.  The Committee received a report, dated 28th April 2010 and prepared by the election: Greffier of the States, in connexion with advertising for the Senatorial by-election. advertising.

424/2(69) The Committee recalled that a by-election to replace former Senator S. Syvret had

been fixed for Wednesday 16th June 2010 and the nomination meeting was likely to be held on Tuesday 25th May 2010. It was noted that, in accordance with Regulation 16 of the Public Elections (Expenditure and Donations) (Jersey) Regulations 2008, the  Committee  was  required  to  make  arrangements  for  election  material  to  be published  in,  or  distributed  with,  an  English  language  newspaper  circulating  in Jersey. The arrangements should be available to each candidate on equal terms, and the election material, including the candidates' background and manifesto, should be provided to the Committee by the candidates. It was noted that a supplement had first been published during the 2008 elections and arrangements had been made with The Idea Works advertising agency as the selected supplier on behalf of the States of Jersey for advertising material to be published in the Jersey Evening Post. As in 2008, it was likely to be possible to include other information about the election in the  supplement  for  the  assistance  of  voters,  for  example  information  about  the location of polling stations and the opening times of the poll.

It  was  noted  that  parishes  were  currently  sending  out  electoral  registration information and that the deadline for registration would be noon on the day preceding the nomination meeting day. The Committee agreed that it would wish to undertake additional advertising to encourage electors to register to vote and requested that draft advertisements be prepared for consideration at a future meeting.

The Greffier of the States was requested to take the necessary action.
