THE STATES, having agreed to the proposition of the Deputy of St. Ouen , noted that, in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 79(3), the debate on the proposition of the Minister for Treasury and Resources entitled Future Hospital Funding Strategy' (P.130/2016), as amended, was suspended until the next meeting.

The Bailiff retired from the Chamber during consideration of the proposition of the Deputy of St. Ouen , and the meeting continued under the presidency of Dr. Mark Egan, Greffier of the States.

States of Jersey Law 2005: proposed amendment – States Members' qualifications for election P.138/2016

THE STATES commenced consideration of a proposition of Deputy Michael Roderick Higgins of St. Helier entitled States of Jersey Law 2005: proposed amendment – States Members' qualifications for election' (P.138/2016) and, adopting paragraph (a), agreed to request the Privileges and Procedures Committee to bring forward amendments to the States of Jersey Law 2005 to repeal Articles 4A, 7 and 8 of the States of Jersey Law 2005 and to replace them with a new Article or Articles to standardise the requirements relating to the qualification and disqualification for election in the States Assembly, so that all members ( Connétable s, Senators and Deputies) would be subject to the same requirements.

THE STATES rejected paragraph (b) of the proposition of Deputy Michael Roderick Higgins of St. Helier , that the Privileges and Procedures Committee be requested to bring forward amendments to the States of Jersey Law 2005 to further amend Article 8 of the States of Jersey Law 2005, in order to bring the disqualification period for bankrupts into line with the Bankruptcy (Désastre) (Jersey) Law 1990.
