K.L. Slack, Clerk to the Privileges and Procedures Committee Note:  The Minutes of this meeting comprise Part A only.

Status of  A1.  The Committee, with reference to its Minute No. A3 of 6th February 2018, Jèrriais within  recalled that it had expressed the wish to lodge an amendment to Deputy M. Tadier 's the States  amendment  of  its  Proposition,  Jèrriais:  optional  use  in  the  States  Chamber' Assembly.  (P.4/2018).

465/4(27)

The rationale for wishing to lodge the amendment had been that Deputy Tadier 's amendment proposed that where a member used Jèrriais during proceedings in the States Chamber, the Presiding Officer might request the Member to provide a translation into English, or French. The Committee's original Proposition had required the provision of a translation into English only.

The  majority  of  the  Committee  had  been  of  the  view  that   Deputy   Tadier 's Proposition had the potential to disadvantage those Members of the States who were not fluent French speakers and had accordingly requested officers to prepare an Amendment, to the effect that the Presiding Officer might request any member using Jèrriais to provide a translation into both English and French.

The Committee received and approved an Amendment, prepared by the Assistant Greffier and requested him to arrange for the same to be lodged au Greffe' for consideration by the States on 6th March 2018.
