Employment (Jersey) Law 2003: Review of parental leave rights amendments P.54/2019

THE STATES commenced consideration of a proposition of Deputy Louise Mary Catherine Doublet of St. Saviour entitled Employment (Jersey) Law 2003: Review of parental leave rights amendments' (P.54/2019) and, adopting an amendment of Deputy Louise Mary Catherine Doublet of   St. Saviour (P.54/2019 Amd.), agreed that for the word "twelve" there should be substituted the word "twenty-four". THE STATES resumed consideration of the proposition of Deputy Louise Mary Catherine Doublet of St. Saviour and, adopting an  amendment of Deputy Louise Mary Catherine   Doublet of   St. Saviour (P.54/2019 Amd.(2)),  agreed  that for  the  words  "P.17/2019" there  should  be  substituted  the  words "P.100/2019".

THE STATES, adopting the proposition of Deputy Louise Mary Catherine Doublet of St. Saviour , as amended –

  1. requested the Minister for Social Security to conduct a full review of the family-friendly' elements of the Employment (Jersey) Law 2003 twenty-four months after the parental leave rights amendments  outlined  in  the  Draft  Employment  (Amendment  No. 11)  (Jersey)  Law  201- (P.100/2019)  had  been  implemented,  and  to  consider  bringing  forward  for  debate recommendations to provide support (financial or otherwise) for any businesses which might have struggled to comply with the Law and families that might have struggled to access the rights set out in the Law; and
  2. agreed that the aforementioned review should include the following, but not be limited to
  1. consultation with families, including an assessment of the impact on children and the extent of uptake by parents; and
  2. consultation with local businesses, including an assessment of impact on finances and supply of cover staff.
