THE STATES commenced consideration of a proposition of Deputy Montfort Tadier of St. Brelade entitled Jersey and the slave trade' (P.78/2020) and rejected paragraph (a) of an amendment of Deputy Jessica Harriet Perchard of St. Saviour (P.78/2020 Amd.) that, in paragraph (a), for the words "as Benin Square" there should be substituted the words "to a name put forward by Black Lives Matter Jersey, which may wish to consult the wider community and other stakeholders, within 60 days of the adoption of this proposition".

THE STATES, resuming consideration of the proposition of Deputy Montfort Tadier of St. Brelade , rejected an amendment of Deputy Montfort Tadier of St. Brelade (P.78/2020 Amd.(2)) that, after paragraph (c), there should be inserted the following new paragraph –

"(d) to agree that every year, the Government should mark 23rd August as International Day for the

Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition; and to request the Council of Ministers to provide members of Jersey's black community with such assistance as they may reasonably require to lead and organise events on that day.".

The Bailiff , during consideration of the proposition of Deputy Montfort Tadier of St. Brelade entitled Jersey and the slave trade' (P.78/2020), suspended the meeting, in accordance with Standing Order 46, in order to allow time for technical issues arising from the Assembly meeting remotely to be resolved.
