Explanatory Note regarding subordinate legislation tabled at this meeting.
R & O 100/2001
The purpose of this Order is to revoke the foot-and-mouth restrictions in respect of France and the Republic of Ireland.
It also amends the restrictions on the importation of certain animals and items from other British Islands to ensure that restricted animals and items cannot be imported from those islands through other places.
It also adds four more beaches on which dogs may be exercised unleashed.
Finally it consolidates the Orders relating to foot-and-mouth disease restrictions (except the one relating to Holland). The Order was made on 20th June 2001 and came into force forthwith.
R & O 101/2001
The purpose of this Order is to amend the restrictions on the importation of certain animals and items from Holland to take account of the fact that the restrictions on importing animals and items from France are to be lifted.
The Order was made on 22nd June 2001 and came into force on 24th June 2001.

"Would the President advise members -
- w h ic h bodies the Committee consults before reaching conclusions regarding extending pavements and altering traffic flows?
- w h at progress the Committee has made on the Sustainable Transport Strategy, and when it will be coming to this Assembly with proposals for the implementation of the Transport Strategy (P.60/99) which was adopted by the States on 29th June 1999?
- w h y the Committee has not brought a proposition to enable approval of the far-reaching changes being made to pavements and traffic flows by the Committee in conjunction with the Urban Renewal Sub-Committee,(of which the President is Chairman)?"

- w o uld he agree that the traffic alterations in question have not been a success to date , and will he therefore revert the traffic flows to their original format?"
- In view of the chaos that has ensued as a result of traffic alterations in Union Street, York Street, etc., would the President agree that in future wider consultation is needed, involving more than just those living or working nearby, and therefore undertake to publish the current plans in full in the media? Would he also ensure that any future plans are similarly published, so that the public generally, and motorists in particular, have sufficient advance warning, not only to express their views, but also to enable them to understand what is happening?"
Deputy C.J. Scott Warr en of St. Saviour will ask the following question of the President of the Education Committee -
"Can the President give details of the number of vacancies for teachers in the public and private sector schools that have been advertised during 2000 and 2001 and would he give a break down for each year as follows -
