Explanatory Note regarding subordinate legislation tabled at this meeting.

R & O 151/2001

The purpose of this Order is to allow the importation from other British Islands of commercial consignments of pork and pork products subject to compliance with certain requirements.

The Order was made on 25th October 2001 and comes into force on 1st November 2001. R & O 152/2001

These Rules remedy a procedural problem caused by a provision in the Code of Laws of 1771 which provides that, when the term of office of a Connétable or Centenier expires, the Attorney General must apply to the Royal Court which must order an election. The Attorney General cannot apply to the Court before that expiry date, which means that time is lost between the Officers ceasing to hold office and the election being held.

The Rules insert a new Part in the Royal Court Rules 1992 requiring the Connétable to notify the Attorney General not less than six weeks before the expiry date so that the Attorney General is able to apply to the Royal Court which can then order an election as soon as possible on or after the expiry date, thus ensuring that the period between the expiry of the term of office and the holding of the necessary election is reduced to a minimum.

The Rules were made by the Superior Number of the Royal Court on 29th October 2001 and came into force forthwith.
