HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE

Report

Over the past eight years from 1990, the Finance and Economics and Policy and Resources Committees have approved capital expenditure in excess of £450 million. Of this total approximately £140 million has been allocated to social need, i.e. Education, Housing and Public Health. The total sum allocated to Health and Social Services is £26.5 million, or six per cent of the grand total. It is not unreasonable to suggest that the priority table used by the Finance and Economics and Policy and Resources Committees has not favoured health care. The proposition seeks to redress the balance by requesting moves to refurbish Robin Ward and Clinique Pinel. The conditions of both departments suffer from a lack of investment countered only by the dedication of the staff. If the money is voted it will enable the Committee to proceed with planning the refurbishment in the knowledge that work can start before the millennium.
