Report

The Committee as part of its continuing programme to improve the quality of the accommodation for tenants living on its older housing estates, has decided to start on a programme of modernisation and improvement at Grasett Park, Georgetown, St. Saviour .

The project will be carried out in two phases; work on the first 36 houses and four flats will include the full internal modernisation of each home, including the fitting of double glazed windows, gas central heating, new kitchens and bathrooms etc. In order to improve the amenity space a utility room will be built to the rear of each house. Each property will be fitted with a new roof and externally clad to bring it up to current insulation standards. Furthermore, each property will be fitted with front porches to afford better protection for residents. Garages will adjoin each property and proper parking provision will be made for residents and their visitors. Finally, a new drainage system will be laid.

In the second phase of the development, the Committee intends to add a bedroom to a number of the 40 remaining three bedroomed houses to create four bedroomed properties to alleviate the pressure on the Committee to provide larger units of accommodation. In addition, the central green area of the estate will be partly landscaped and small play area created for the enjoyment of the young children living at Grasett Park. However, the majority of open green will be left as free play and recreational space. The Committee will also discuss with the Parish of St. Saviour various measures for improving traffic control within the estate.

The Committee believes that the measures that have been recommended will not only preserve the long term integrity of the accommodation, but they will significantly improve the living conditions of the 84 families who live on this very popular estate.
