SPORT, LEISURE AND RECREATION COMMITTEE
Report
The funding of community projects ceased abruptly at the beginning of the year due to the problems encountered by the Channel Islands Lottery. Whilst firm commitments had not been made beyond 1999, the Sport, Leisure and Recreation Committee has been involved in discussions with a number of community groups which are currently raising funds for worthwhile projects. For some, the target of commencing the work in the year 2000 has been an important factor in raising significant funds, which would have been matched on a pound for pound basis had the Lottery profits continued.
The current review being undertaken by the Finance and Economics Committee is welcome, but an early indication of States' financial support will be very important for a number of community projects. It is also very important to note that these projects will bring great benefits to the community without any further drain on the public purse. Those which are currently known to the Committee and will require funding in 2000 are as follows -
St. Mary 's Community Sport and Recreation Centre Jersey Rowing Club
Jersey SubAqua Club
Scout facilities, Les Creux
Rozel Rovers Football Club.
