____________

F o r t h e figure "20" substitute the figure "30". DEPUTY G.C.L. BAUDAINS OF ST. CLEMENT

Report

The list of roads in St. Clement on pages 6 and 7 are in the category of 30 m.p.h. according to the Public Services policy. The speed limit suggested by the parish of St. Clement is 30 m.p.h., as stated on page 5.

The Public Services survey showed that 85 per cent of traffic is currently travelling at 30 m.p.h. or less. The Public Services Committee conclusions quoted on page 6 are entirely reasonable and suggest that the few who drive too fast would not be slowed by a lower speed limit.

The vast majority of drivers have, by example, proved that 30 m.p.h. is a reasonable maximum speed.

In my view, to reduce the speed limit to 20 m.p.h. would therefore be in contravention of the Public Services policy, the findings of responsible drivers and the wishes of the parish.
