Report
The old Sandybrook Hospital was demolished in 1997 to make way for a new development, which included Stage 1, a Residential Nursing Home which was completed in 1999, and Stage 2, a Day Care Centre which was completed in August 1999. Both these projects were funded by Health and Social Services Capital Programme Vote C3201. It is also planned that, within the same site, the Housing Committee will construct Stage 3 of the development, ten units of sheltered housing, to meet the needs of frail elderly and disabled people. The principle of developing sheltered housing alongside a residential nursing home has worked very well at the Limes, as Health and Social Services staff can provide occasional help when needed.
The Housing Committee are now planning to commence construction of the sheltered housing in March 2001, subject to Committees and States' approval. In preparation for that project, it is recommended that the administration of the land required is transferred from the Health and Social Services Committee to the Housing Committee. There are two areas involved, as shown on the attached plan numbered 1725. The first is for the construction of the sheltered housing flats, and the other is for the car parking spaces already built as dedicated use for residents and their visitors.
