Deputy Baudains' Report raises legitimate issues of public concern which the Committee is pleased to confirm have been and continue to be the subject of discussion between the Committee and the Trusts. The Committee agrees that the allocation policies adopted by Housing Trusts, as well as its own allocation policy for States Rental accommodation, should be clarified and made available to the public. Work is currently in progress on these documents.
The Committee believes that every direct applicant to the Trust or nominee of the Housing Committee has the right to be informed of the reason if they are to be refused an offer of accommodation by a Trust. The Committee also believes the Trusts must have the right to exercise control in the selection of their own tenants. There will inevitably be some direct applicants and some nominees of the Committee who will be unsuccessful.
The individual case example of Mrs. X is not typical of the way in which the Trusts have handled the hundreds of nominations which have been made over the last several years. For this reason, and because the other matters raised are, as outlined above, already the subject of positive ongoing discussion, the Committee believes that there is insufficient justification for a Committee of Inquiry into this matter.
