Report
A new Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit is planned to be constructed in the grounds of the Overdale Hospital site. The building is required to provide a 30 bed purpose-built unit, to replace old unsuitable buildings on that site, and will provide for all the necessary occupational therapy, physiotherapy and support services required to return patients to normal living as soon as possible. The Unit will also cater for day patients who will share some of the facilities.
Included within the budget are the provision of a number of other services which will either be relocated into this new unit or be provided for in the adjacent William Knott Day Hospital. These other services include Clinical Psychology, Continence, Bone Densitometry, Neuro Care, Stroke and Head Injury and consulting rooms. The Scheme also provides for mains services, including a new Jersey Electricity Company sub-station, re-distribution of water mains and for support services including catering, engineering and gardening.
The States approved the original plans for the scheme on 13th March 2001.
As a result, an Enabling Works Contract was completed in June 2001, which included re-distribution of water mains and storage, demolition, site clearance and re-location of greenhouses.
During 2001, changes have been made to the design including - (i ) th e creation of a basement storage area;
(ii ) c h anges to window fenestration;
(ii i ) en closing a fire escape stair;
(iv ) al terations to the main entrance elevation.
As a result of these changes the drawings are being re-presented for States' approval prior to receiving tenders for the construction of the unit.
Funding is to be provided from the Committee's 2001 Capital Programme which has been approved by the States in the Policy and Resources Committee's "Resource Plan 2000".
The manpower and revenue consequences of this new unit have been included in the Committee's development plan.
