PROPOSITION

THE STATES are asked to decide whether they are of opinion -

in accordance with Article 4 of the Customs and Excise (Jersey) Law 1999, to approve the appointment of Mr. Stephen Cole as Agent of the Impôts with effect from 1st June 2002.

Following a rigorous interview and assessment process the successful candidate Mr. Stephen Cole was appointed to the new role of Chief Executive, Customs and Immigration Department.

Whilst the Home Affairs Committee has the authority to appoint Mr. Cole to the position of Chief Executive of Immigration, the States must make the decision in respect of the appointment to Agent of the Impôts, in accordance with Article 4 of the Customs and Excise (Jersey) Law 1999.

Mr. Cole was born in Jersey in 1946. He joined the Customs and Excise Department in May 1968 and was promoted to the post of Senior Officer in 1985. He was appointed as of Deputy Agent of the Impôts in 1989 and has been Acting Agent of the Impôts since January 2001.

There are no additional financial and manpower implications for the States.
