REPORT

The Regulations governing the Committee of Management of the Public Employees' Contributory Retirement Scheme provide for the appointment of employer and member representatives.

The member representatives are nominated in a manner which is acceptable to the Policy and Resources Committee and are drawn from the Public Employees Pension Scheme Joint Negotiating Group (the Group), a body which is comprised of representatives from all of the Unions and Associations with members in the Scheme. The Group have chosen Mr. Birbeck to replace Mr. Littlechild, who has resigned as a member representative from the Committee of Management. The Policy and Resources Committee, in accordance with Regulation 3(2) of the Regulations are therefore nominating Mr. Birbeck to serve on the Committee of Management, for the term of office to expire on 31st December 2003.

Mr. Birbeck is a long-serving public servant, having been employed by Jersey Telecoms since 1980. He is currently the Telecoms representative on the Public Employees Pension Scheme Joint Negotiating Group and is the Acting Senior Shop Steward for AmicusAEEU (Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union).

There are no financial or manpower implications for the States arising from this draft Proposition.
