CHANNEL ISLANDS LOTTERY: ALLOCATION OF PROFITS

Lodged au Greffe on 20th July 2004 by the Economic Development Committee

STATES GREFFE

PROPOSITION

THE STATES are asked to decide whether they are of opinion

to a g ree that the Jersey portion of the profits of the Channel Islands Lottery during 2004 should be paid to

the Association of Jersey Charities for the benefit of the community and the charitable needs of the Island.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Note:  The Finance and Economics Committee's comments are to follow.

REPORT

The Committee requests the support of the States to continue awarding the Jersey allocation of Lottery profits to the Association of Jersey Charities during 2004.

Last year saw profits of £209,576 given to the Association and this represents their main source of income. The Association now represents over 200 member charities and undertakes a valuable function by considering and allocating funding to the best prepared and worthy projects put forward by its members. In doing so, the Association continues to fulfil a vital social need.

Sales of tickets for the C.I. Lottery scratch-cards have stabilised a long-running decline and the Committee is optimistic that a higher level of funding will be generated as a result.

The  Committee  will present  the  Association with  a  Service Level  Agreement  in  accordance  with  Code  of Direction  26. There are no other financial or manpower implications for the States arising from this proposition.
