JERSEY ARTS TRUST: APPOINTMENT OF CHAIRMAN

Lodged au Greffe on 30th January 2007

by the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture

STATES GREFFE

PROPOSITION

THE STATES are asked to decide whether they are of opinion

to a p prove the appointment of Mr. Colin Perchard CVO, OBE as Chairman of the Jersey Arts Trust for a

further term of four years in accordance with the provisions of the Trust's amended constitution.

MINISTER FOR EDUCATION, SPORT AND CULTURE

REPORT

In adopting P.79/1992, the States created the Jersey Arts Trust to formulate and co-ordinate a policy for arts and crafts in Jersey. The Trust's constitution was registered before the Royal Court on 22nd January 1993 and amended on 12th February 1999. It requires the States, on the recommendation of the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture, after consultation with the Trustees, to appoint a chairperson.

The approval of the Cultural Strategy by the States in September 2005 entails a number of consequential changes to the constitution and remit of the Trust, work which has already begun constructively under the leadership of Mr. Colin Perchard. Having taken account of the wishes of the Trustees, the Minister considers that it would be in the interests both of the Trust and of the wider objectives of the Cultural Strategy to confirm Mr. Perchard as chairman for a further term.

Mr. Perchard has indicated his willingness to serve another term and accordingly the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture recommends his appointment to the States.

There are no financial or manpower implications for the States arising from this proposition.
