LEGISLATION ADVISORY PANEL: APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS
Lodged au Greffe on 7th January 2008 by the Chief Minister
STATES GREFFE
PROPOSITION
THE STATES are asked to decide whether they are of opinion
to a p point the following persons as members of the Legislation Advisory Panel –
the Deputy of St. Mary
the Deputy of St. Peter.
CHIEF MINISTER
REPORT
On 4th April 2006 the States approved the appointment of the following States Members to the Legislation Advisory Panel (P.32/2006) –
• Senator James Leslie Perchard
• Senator Ben Edward Shenton
• Connétable Derek Frederick Gray of St. Clement
• Deputy Andrew David Lewis of St. John.
The States also confirmed the continued appointment of Connétable Kenneth Priaulx Vibert of St. Ouen as the Chairman of the Panel.
However, now that Senators Shenton and Perchard have been appointed as Minister and Assistant Minister for Health and Social Services respectively, there are now 2 vacancies on the Legislation Advisory Panel following the standing down from the Panel of the said Senators.
Although the approval of the States is not obligatory, it is suggested that it would be desirable to seek the support of the Assembly. Deputies Juliette Gallichan of St. Mary and Collin Hedley Egré of St. Peter have agreed tha they would be willing to serve on the Legislation Advisory Panel.
Connétable Derek Gray and Deputy Andrew Lewis have both agreed that they are willing to continue in their role as members of the Panel and Connétable Ken Vibert as Chairman of the same Panel.
Financial and manpower implications
This proposition has no additional financial and manpower implications. The Advisory Panel will continue to be supported by a Committee Clerk from the States Greffe, and will receive advice from the Attorney General and Law Draftsman, who will be invited to attend its meetings.
