APPOINTMENTS COMMISSION: RE-APPOINTMENT OF MEMBER
Lodged au Greffe on 19th February 2008 by the Chief Minister
STATES GREFFE
PROPOSITION
THE STATES are asked to decide whether they are of opinion
in a c cordance with Article 18(1) of the Employment of States of Jersey Employees (Jersey) Law 2005, to
re-appoint Advocate Rose Edith Colley as a Commissioner to the Jersey Appointments Commission for a period of one year.
CHIEF MINISTER
REPORT
The Jersey Appointments Commission has been established by the States in accordance with Part 4 of the Employment of States of Jersey Employees (Jersey) Law 2005. The Commission consists of a Chairperson and not more than 4 other Commissioners.
The term of office of one of the members of the Commission, Advocate Rose Edith Colley, expires in February 2008, and Advocate Colley has indicated that she will accept a re-appointment. Advocate Colley has been a member of the Commission since its establishment in July 2002 and her re-appointment will be in accordance with the requirements set out in Part 4, Article 18(5) of the Employment of States of Jersey Employees (Jersey Law 2005.
I would like to propose that Advocate Rose Edith Colley be re-appointed as a member of the Appointments Commission with immediate effect for a period of a further year.
Background
The Appointments Commission members' periods of office expire as follows –
• Mr. Michael Joseph Liston – Chairman
• Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Rees
• Mr. Brian Curtis
• Advocate Rose Edith Colley
• Mr. Kenneth Soar
– 23/02/10
– 23/02/10
– 23/02/09
– 23/02/08
– 18/04/11
It is important to retain the experience of Advocate Colley, a founder member of the Commission, for a further period. Mr. Liston and Mrs. Ree's periods of office expire in 2010; therefore the re-appointment of Advocate Rose Edith Colley for a period of one further year will assist in maintaining continuity within the membership of the Appointments Commission.
Financial and manpower implications
There are no additional resource implications arising from these proposals, as there is already a budget in place for the costs associated with the running of the Appointments Commission.
