WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE MINISTER FOR HOME AFFAIRS BY SENATOR B.E. SHENTON

ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON TUESDAY 20th OCTOBER 2009

Question

"Can the Minister give an estimate for the total cost to his Department in respect of the surveillance, arrest, and conviction of Curtis Warr en and associates?"

Answer

Since the commencement of the Police operation in 2007 the estimated cost to date to the Home Affairs Department for the surveillance, arrest, security and subsequent conviction of Curtis Warr en and associates amounts to £964,500.

There remain ongoing security matters in respect of the forthcoming sentencing of the convicted men to take place in early December, and thereafter any potential appeal, which will have a financial impact which has not been included in the above estimate. It is not policy for the police to disclose details around operational policing requirements.
