WQ.189/2022
WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE MINISTER FOR HOUSING AND COMMUNITIES BY DEPUTY R.S. KOVACS OF ST. SAVIOUR
QUESTION SUBMITTED ON MONDAY 26th SEPTEMBER 2022 ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON MONDAY 3rd OCTOBER 2022
Question
Will the Minister provide a breakdown of the number and type of residential units proposed for the St. Saviour Hospital site, as well as the estimated completion date of said units?
Answer
The St Saviour’s site is home to a number of buildings, including existing key worker accommodation and the Grade 1 listed Queen’s House. It presents an opportunity to develop a sustainable and cohesive new community with homes that Islanders can aspire – and afford – to own.
Ministers are working through how best to bring forward the site. In doing so we are seeking to ensure the maximum viable number of affordable homes, plus open market homes, as may be necessary to help raise sufficient capital to subsidise the refurbishment and future security of the listed buildings and public realm. We are also seeking to ensure that the site can be used as an exemplar of modern methods of construction, in order to deliver homes faster and to the high standards that Islanders expect.
The number and type of residential units will necessarily have to be informed by the initial design and feasibility work that is still to be completed, and therefore are not currently known.
The Deputy , States Members and the public can also be assured that these issues will be explored through public consultation – including with the Parish of St Saviour – in order that my colleague, the Minister for the Environment, can provide Supplementary Planning Guidance to inform a future planning application.
