The right to request flexible working arrangements is a Day 1 right in Jersey and applies to all employees, regardless of the type of contract they are engaged on.

In terms of extending the current provisions in the Employment Law, an amendment will shortly be made to the Law, to increase the number of requests for flexible working that an employee can make in a 12-month period, from one to two. Flexible working should, as far as possible, be at the heart of modern employment practices, where it is a reasonable and practical option.

Given the provisions that currently exist and the impending amendment to the Employment Law, I have no immediate plans to make further changes to the Law in respect of flexible working arrangements. However, I will be working on improvements to ensure that employees are more aware of their rights and employers know their responsibilities under the Law.
